Pulmonary hypertension is a condition that occurs when the blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs becomes too high. This can happen for a variety of reasons, including heart disease, lung disease, and certain medications. In India alone, there is a high burden of pulmonary hypertension cases throughout the country with an estimated prevalence of 1–2%. It is a relatively rare condition in the general population, but its prevalence is ever increasing, especially in developing countries. It is more prevalent in certain groups of people, such as those with certain types of heart or lung disease and patients above the age of 35. It is important to note that it is a rare but severely debilitating and often fatal condition which places a significant economic burden on the families with a patient known to have this condition.
